In order to understand your audience, you need to have been where they are, and this can only be accomplished by work experience. You will increase your credibility with people if you have experienced the challenges and struggles that they are going through themselves.

The important thing, apart from your excellence as a speaker and the quality of your message is to get your name out there and become a recognizable name.
